Wireless Battle Mesh v3 (WBMv3) next 02-06 June 2010 in Bracciano Roma (IT)

The next ‘Wireless Battle Mesh’ will take place from  Wed 2nd till Sun 6th of June in Bracciano (near Rome), Italy. The event aims to bring together people from across Europe to test the performance of different routing protocols for ad-hoc networks, like Babel, B.A.T.M.A.N., and OLSR. This third WBM will be improving the testbed conditions for mesh protocols with standardized testing procedures that will be reported after the event for the wireless communities.
On the development side, flashing tool will be presented to simplify the deployment of such wireless networks based on OpenWrt stable release and packages for each protocols.

Every participant needs to donate 50 EUR (this should cover the costs for the camping, and the infrastructure). To finance this event, we ask you to pay when subscribing (paypal, bank transfer or cash).

BattleWirelessMesh2009 – April 11-12 @ TmpLab :: Organizations updates

We are pleased to confirm the coming up WirelessBattleMesh April11-12th at
the TMPLAB with the battle of the three mesh wireless protocols.

PLANNING

*Friday 10th : Welcoming of the first people coming and flashing of the
node + configuration of the nodes

*Sat 11th :
**Morning : setting up the nodes on-site and validation of the different
subnets.
**Afternoon : first series of tests and measurements with fixed nodes
*Sun 12th :
**Morning : second series of tests and measurement with fixed and mobile
nodes (laptops)
**Afternoon : Optimization of the protocols and Conclusion

ENVIRONMENT

The 6bis is a large building made of concrete so there should not be any
problems with radio interference even though the nodes are pretty close to
each other thus allowing pretty good isolation of each node’s coverage area.

ACCOMODATIONS

There is an hotel near the /tmp/lab which should be fairly empty at this
period of the year, rooms are around 40 euros. If you bring your sleeping bag
it might be possible for you to land and sleep at the /tmp/lab. Members of
the /tmp/lab may also welcome you home in their respective homes. There are
also a couple of restaurants and Döner Kebab near the /tmp/lab.

NETWORKING

Network topology, addressing and deployed services to test the different
protocols will be detailed to you on Tuesday evening.

BattleWirelessMesh2009 – April 11-12 @ TmpLab – Sponsors Update

The TmpLab is pleased to announce the support of two first sponsors for the BattleWirelessMesh to help this event to be the one occasion a have a real case mesh test-bed.

DEVELOPERS updates

Already developers from BATMAN, BABEL and OpenWrt are scheduled to be part of the event to optimize their packages and BSP to improve the results of the contest.

The TmpLab is scheduling an OpenWrt workshop on Sat, April 4 @ /tmp/lab which will be the occasion to prepare and speak about the network constraints and infrastructure to build.

Each protocol team should be preparing a ready-to-flash built image to prepare the event.

First TMPLAB Wireless Battle Mesh – April 11-12th 2009 @ tmplab

We are pleased to announce that the /tmp/lab  will be organizing a Spring Wireless OpenWRT Mesh Contest called “Wireless Battle Mesh” during 2 days (April 11-12th) with the goal of building 3 wireless mesh networks based on embedded hardware running OpenWRT and different concurrent mesh routing protocols.

The targeted architecture will be 3 networks of 25nodes + 1 wireless managment networks (10-20 nodes) to achieve realistic size of nodes number, data traffic, configuration problems. The architecture will be set-up indoor and outdoor around the building of the /tmp/lab.

OpenWRT will be the selected for the BoardSupportPackage running on the different hardware nodes and a core network configuration will be built on Linux servers with user-friendly features such as :
*VLANs
*Captive portal
*Authentication
*Admin portal

Concerning the mesh-protocols, selected targeted protocols are :

*OLSR : IP-based mesh routing platform (http://olsr.org and openWRT package available)

*BATMAN : Layer2-based mesh protocol (http://open-mesh.org) and available as a kernel module for Linux and packaged in OpenWRT

*BABEL : Layer-3 mesh protocol developed by University Paris 6, available for Linux and soon to be packaged for OpenWRT (http://www.pps.jussieu.fr/~jch/software/babel/)

Concerning the hardware node, we are looking for hardware sponsors that could enjoy this “real-case” contest by providing 50-100 nodes to the event. This sponsor will be actually displayed on the organization website as well as during the event. The feedbacks for the hardware manufacturers can be not only from the users but also from the network community running real-case test (academic- or community-wide).

Welcome to the new Brussels Hacker Space HSB !!

We are proud to announce at the TMPLAB that Brussels has now a Hacker Space for the belgian hackers to meet and organize their projects, starting with a bootstrap meeting on October 12th 2008 in Brussels.  Belgium is a famous hacking country and host several well known hackers as MisterX, maintainer and project leader of the aircrack-ng tool.

Inquietude sur le fichier EDVIGE

 “Dans un communiqué du 2 juillet 2008, la Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés (Cnil) précise sa position à la suite de la publication au Journal officiel d’un décret concernant la création du fichier Edvige, fichier automatisé destiné à collecter des informations personnelles pour le gouvernement et ses représentants dans les départements et les collectivités.” lit on sur le site vie-publique.fr. En effet, depuis quelques semaines, le debat enfle sur la mise en place du fichier EDVIGE  par le Ministere de l’Interieur dans le cadre de la réforme des services français du renseignement et confié à la direction centrale de la sécurité publique (DCSP). Ce fichier va regrouper un certain d’informations personnelles sur les individus lit-on sur le bulletin du journal officiel publie le 02.07.2008 :
